Henri's 8th Birthday Party

Henri enjoyed hosting his first friends birthday party at our house. We decided to make cupcakes which Maggie really enjoyed. With the snow that fell last night we only managed to clear part of the ice rink but that did not prevent everyone from playing and skating through the snow.

Literacy Day

Our local library organized a great evening pyjama party to celebrate literacy day. It included their own version of Wheel of Fortune, where each family had a chance to participate and win a prize. The kids then made a nice craft before ending the evening enjoying milk and cookies during storytime.

Birthday Party Planning

This year, Henri has been actively participating in planning every aspect of his upcoming birthday party including the guest list, party theme (skating) and also the elaborate loot bag preparation process.

Science Co-op # 2 Topic: Density

Henri had even more fun learning about science during his second homeschool science co-op since he was more familiar with the surroundings and participants.

Skating

Henri has been regularly going skating with friends (Peter, Patrick) at Erin and Hillsburgh Arena. The kids really enjoy having Tristan skate after them and it's great exercise for them.

Aquarium

When Henri was about 6 months old, we bought him a goldfish, which is still alive after living in a small fish bowl for over seven years! This year, after much deliberation, Henri decided to spend the money he received from his grandparents on an aquarium. A trip to Pet Paradise allowed him to discover that an aquarium opens up so many fishy options which require difficult choices: Goldfish are relatively easy to maintain, but tropical fish come in so many more shapes/sizes/colours! Even the aquarium decoration accessory options seem endless.

Science Co-op

Henri was thrilled when a spot became available at the homeschool science co-op. It is run by three university engineering students. They started with a 5 minute recap from the previous activity. They spent the next 15 minutes explaining (in a kid-friendly way) engineering principles and the objectives of the craft (build a floating city which can support 2 one pound weights). Henri was so proud of his contribution to the project he did with his two friends (and their dad) that he insisted on bringing it home so he could show it to Melissa. Below are a few photos.
