Finally...Ice Cream

Bailey's Ice Cream Parlour reopened for the season recently so Henri & Peter suffered through the cold to enjoy their favourite scoop.

Science Co-op #6: Weather

Henri picked up a car load of friends this week for the Science Coop - Peter, William & Charlie. The group enjoyed this week's topic: Weather. It included several experiments to demonstrate how a variety of weather patterns such as cloud formation and precipitation develop.

Easter Egg Dying

On Friday, we decided to decorate Easter cookies and dye eggs. Unfortunately, Henri was sick on Easter Sunday so we had to miss the family function and handing out the treats/cookies to his cousins. It will take us a few weeks to eat the 4 lbs of chocolate we had planned on sharing.

Henri's Garden

Henri started his seeds inside a few weeks ago. He planted tomatoes, cucumbers, watermelon & a pumpkin. Henri & Tristan started preparing the garden beds and planted the spring onion bulbs. Henri was excited to plant an award winning giant pumpkin seed obtained from the Agriculture Society (winner at the Port Elgin Pumpkinfest 2009). We just can't believe how fast it is growing in comparison to the other seedlings and can't wait to see how large it will become over the summer months.

One of the many aspects I enjoy about my part-time photography job with our local newspaper (Erin Advocate) is that Henri often gets to share my 'front-row' view during local events, which provides many educational opportunities. After noticing federal election candidates' signs popping up everywhere along our local roads, he has recently become interested in learning about politics and the structure of our parliamentary system. He had a chance to meet a candidate (incumbent Conservative MP Michael Chong) during a photo assignment at a local church this weekend.

Science Co-op # 5: Dirty Water

During this week's 'dirty water' science co-op, participants learned about the cumulative effects of pollution as water runs through streams and rivers. They then applied the four-step engineering cycle to design filters to help remove contaminants form the water. Henri once again excelled during a group game of 'hangman' at the end of the session.

Some participants/contaminants took turns trying to see if they could get through the human filter

High School Musical 2

Henri and his cousins enjoyed cheering on two of their cousins who had starring roles in a performance of High School Musical 2. Below are a few photos and a link to view a video/slideshow.

Starkey Hill Trail Walk

We decided to take advantage of the nice weather and go for a hike near Guelph. It took us just over an hour to complete the 4 km walk through forest of hardwoods and conifers. The trail was well marked but at some point both Henri & I (mom) thought we had wandered off the path and thankful to finally get back to the parking lot.

Trampoline Set Up

The weather finally cooperated for us to get the trampoline set up. Henri is always thrilled when it's ready so he can get out and bounce a few times a day. Henri just couldn't wait for the net enclosure before trying it out so I took a few snaps.

Julian & Grace Visit

Henri stopped by to see his cousins, Julian & Grace following an appointment in Hamilton.
