Wellington County Museum

On January 9th, Henri went on a GHG field trip to the Wellington County Museum. The topic was Early Settlers in Wellington County. The activities included candle making, processing wool and herbal remedies. Henri found it interesting that they used to make candles out of beef fat, and that the trees in the region were huge because the area was uninhabited for over 250 years.

Kara - Henri's new kitten

Unfortunately, on Thursday we had to put our cat, Pinky down. Henri decided he would like to get a kitten because he was going to miss Pinky. On Saturday, we stopped at the Humane Society which had a large selection of kittens to choose from. After a half hour difficult selection process, we decided on a 12 week-old playful grey short-haired kitten named Kara.

2013 - Happy New Year

Happy New Year Everyone!!! Bonne année a tous!!!

Christmas Day Family Gathering

The three of us enjoyed a leisurely Christmas morning at home followed by a busy afternoon/evening family party in Kitchener.  We brought our classic 1980's video game console and it was quite a hit with all age groups!  The only time it was idle was during the group gift exchange!

Hercule's Christmas Party

On December 8th we attended the Hercules Christmas Party. Henri is invited every year along with his cousin's to his grandpa's former workplace party. This year's party was really nice with the exception of the magician (who needed a bit more practice).

Wintersinger's Tree Farm

We followed our annual Christmas tradition and went and cut down a tree at Wintersinger's .We had a difficult time trying to decide between Henri's very full tall tree and Melissa's 'Charlie Brown' tree. In the end after a bit of debate we got Henri's tree. We enjoyed decorating the tree later that day.

GHG Craft Sale

Henri participated for his second year at the GHG Craft Sale in early December. Henri enjoyed selling his decorations, gift bags, baked goods that he had spent a few weeks preparing. His grandparents were his biggest supporter helping him raise about $75.00. The event was very successful with over 20 vendors and hundreds of shoppers.

Royal Winter Fair

This was the first year we attended the Royal Winter Fair. It was busy, but the crowds were manageable. The agricultural displays were educational, and we enjoyed the show jumping competition in the main horse arena. The highlight for Henri was looking at the Canadian coin and paper currency collector's display. Henri has started his own coin collection receiving his first set of coins from 2003 (year he was born). The butter sculpturing competition was also very impressive.
